Medical disinfection
LEDs are increasingly being used in medical disinfection in the following ways: 1. **UV-C LED Disinfection for Surfaces and Equipment**: UV-C LEDs can be installed in devices designed for disinfecting medical surfaces like countertops, beds, and equipment. For example, in hospital rooms, portable UV-C LED wands or fixed units can be used to disinfect frequently touched surfaces between patient uses. 2. **UV-C LED Disinfection of Medical Instruments**: Small UV-C LED chambers or boxes can be used to sterilize medical instruments such as scissors, forceps, and other small tools. The instruments are placed inside the chamber and exposed to the UV-C light for a specific period to kill any pathogens present. 3. **Air Disinfection in Healthcare Facilities**: UV-C LEDs can be integrated into air handling units or standalone air purifiers in medical settings. As air passes through the UV-C LED light field, airborne microorganisms are inactivated, reducing the risk of airborne infections within the facility. 4. **Water Disinfection in Medical Applications**: In medical facilities where clean water is essential, such as dialysis centers or laboratories, UV-C LEDs can be used to disinfect water supplies by killing bacteria, viruses, and other contaminants in the water.
